Are Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) keen on signing FC St. Pauli and Socceroos’ star Jackson Irvine? Many have asked this question on social media in the last few days. The answer, at this moment, is no. “We already have Apuia, Sahal [Abdul Samad] to an extent, Deepak Tangri, Anirudh Thapa and Abhishek [Suryavanshi],” said a source close to the developments. “Why should we invest in a very similar player?”
MBSG have their plans very clear. First, as already reported by RevSportz, they are keen on signing an Indian national team defender. But what has now come to light is that even if they do and are successful in getting the centre-back of choice, they are still keen on a foreign centre-back to play alongside Alberto Rodriguez. With the determination being to make a presence at the AFC level, the club will hire three new foreigners in all likelihood.

The first will be a centre-back mostly likely to replace Tom Aldred. The second will be an attacking option, most likely someone like Robson Robinho, with whom the club is in talks. And the third will be decided in the course of time. The three players to be released are Greg Stewart, Nuno Reis and Tom Aldred, if MBSG find better options.
Coach Jose Molina is also all set to continue at the helm for another year, as he had already disclosed to us earlier. All the signings are being done in consultation with the coach and are aimed at making a mark at the Asian level.
