Mohun Bagan Super Giants are in advanced talks with the 31-year-old Spanish defender Alberto Rodriguez. Alberto is currently under contract with the Indonesian First Tier Club Persib Bandung, which expires next year.
RevSportz can exclusively confirm that Alberto is likely to join the green and maroon jersey next season. According to a close source to RevSportz, Mohun Bagan is confident of the deal which is now in an advanced stage.
A person closely tracking the deal informed RevSportz, “Talks with Alberto are at an advanced stage, but the contract has not been signed yet.”
The Spanish defender began his professional career in the youth ranks of Arucas CF. He later played for several Spanish clubs before joining the third division side CD Lugo. In 2023, Alberto parted ways with CD Lugo to join the Indonesian side Persib Bandung. He has made 33 appearances for Persib Bandung, playing close to 3000 minutes for the club.
Mohun Bagan’s management is seeking a reliable foreign defender for the upcoming season, during which they will participate in the prestigious ACL 2 competition alongside the ISL, Super Cup, and Durand Cup. They have already appointed Spanish head coach Jose Molina as the successor to Antonio Lopez Habas and are now looking to complete their remaining foreigner slots.
Reports had also suggested they are on the verge of announcing the signing of Australian striker Jamie Maclaren as well.
If reports are accurate, Alberto Rodriguez is likely to wear the green and maroon jersey for the upcoming season and add further mettle to the MBSG line up, which has already been strengthened with the addition of Apuia.
