Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) have strengthened their attack ahead of the AFC Champions League 2025, completing the signing of Brazilian winger Robson “Robinho” Azevedo da Silva on a multi-year deal. While the exact duration of the contract has not been revealed, an official announcement is expected soon on the club’s social media channels. The 29-year-old is expected to join the squad in time for the Mariners’ opening clash against Turkmenistan side FK Ahal on September 16.
Robinho arrives with a proven pedigree in South Asian football, having enjoyed a highly successful spell with Bashundhara Kings in Bangladesh. During his time there, he won seven trophies and delivered an outstanding return of 64 goals and 49 assists in 97 appearances, cementing his reputation as one of the most influential foreign players in the Bangladesh Premier League.
The Brazilian, who can operate on either wing or in the No. 10 role, last turned out for São Paulo-based side EC Água Santa in Brazil’s regional third division, making six appearances this year. He also has experience in the Brazilian Serie A, the country’s top flight, earlier in his career.
Robinho was on the radar of both Kolkata giants – Mohun Bagan and East Bengal. The latter had considered reuniting him with Spanish coach Oscar Bruzon, under whom he won four consecutive Bangladesh Premier League titles between 2020 and 2024. However, it was Mohun Bagan that ultimately secured his signature, identifying him as a replacement for Greg Stewart. His versatility will also allow him to combine effectively with fellow foreign attackers Jason Cummings and Jamie Maclaren.
The signing underlines Mohun Bagan’s intent to bolster its squad ahead of continental competition. For the Mariners, Robinho’s arrival adds both quality and experience in attack, as they look to make a strong statement on the Asian stage.
