In a move to further bolster their domestic strength, Mohun Bagan Super Giant have officially signed one of Indian football’s brightest young talents, Abhishek Singh, on a four-year contract. The 20-year-old versatile fullback from Manipur, who has already made an impression at both national and club levels, completed his medical earlier this week before signing with the reigning ISL League Shield winners on Thursday morning.
Abhishek, who can operate effectively as both a left and right back, and has also been deployed on the wings, joins a star-studded Mohun Bagan squad aiming to build on their recent success. He will participate in the team’s pre-season training this evening at the Centre of Excellence ground in Salt Lake’s New Town under the guidance of assistant coach Bastab Roy.
Speaking after his signing, Abhishek said, “I had offers from several top Indian clubs, but I chose Mohun Bagan because I believe it’s the number one club in the country. You get to feel like a champion here. The club’s consistency in winning trophies drew me.”
Having already won the I-League with Punjab FC, Abhishek is now eyeing his maiden ISL title. “I’ve never won the ISL League or Shield. I hope to achieve that dream with Mohun Bagan. Playing and training alongside top Indian players will help me grow.”
The youngster is also motivated by the fanbase. “Mohun Bagan has the largest following in Indian football. I’ve seen the support on social media and the passion during the derby — now I can’t wait to experience it on the pitch. Many fans have already reached out, and I promise to give my best for them.”
