‘More Fighting than Cricket Going on’: Harbhajan on Kohli-Gambhir Spat

Written by Vaibhav Tripathi

Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian off-spinner and four-time IPL winner, has expressed his disappointment over the face-off between Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli, in the aftermath of Royal Challengers Bangalore beating Lucknow Super Giants on Monday night in the Indian Premier League.

Kohli and Gambhir have a chequered history, and that seemed to make this latest incident all the more intense. Both were subsequently fined their full match fees as punishment for their unsavoury behaviour.

“There will be a lot of questions over whose fault it was, whether it was Kohli’s, Gambhir’s or Naveen’s,” said Harbhajan on his YouTube channel. “A lot of heated words were exchanged. Even while shaking hands, you can see that Kohli immediately withdrew his hand. Virat and Gautam are from the same city, they have even won the World Cup together, so I think that they should spread a lovely message to cricket lovers together.”

Harbhajan, who has spoken often about how much he regrets slapping Sreesanth during the inaugural IPL season – he was banned for the rest of the campaign – was at pains to stress what a bad look it was for the competition.

Gambhir-Kohli Spat – No One Bigger Than the Game

“If you see the highlights of this match, you’ll say that there was more fighting than cricket going on,” he said. “Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli already have their rivalry and differences from before itself. Their relationship was never the same after the incident at the Chinnaswamy Stadium long back.”
