Shubman Gill, India’s opening batter, has admitted that his big goal is to inspire India to victory in the World Cup, which begins on home soil in October. Having won the Under-19 World Cup as a junior, Gill – like Virat Kohli before him – is one of the few to have made a seamless transition to the senior ranks.
“The most important goal for me as a player right now is to win World Cup 2023,” he told Star Sports. “I recall being young when India won the World Cup in 2011. The mindset is to swiftly read the wicket and access the positions.”
Gill’s performance in 2023 has been nothing short of exceptional, encompassing all formats of cricket. His achievements in the ODI format have been particularly noteworthy. He has amassed a staggering 827 runs in just 14 innings, with a highest score of 208. Gill’s ODI record includes two centuries and three half-centuries, at an impressive strike rate of 105.7 and an average of 68.91.
