Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has been inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. The ICC confirmed his induction on Monday, 9 June. Dhoni is the 11th Indian to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, he has exemplified what it means to be one of cricket’s greatest finishers, captains, and wicketkeepers — and now he is officially recognised among the legends of the game.

Dhoni played 538 international matches, scoring 17,266 runs and completing 829 dismissals. His career was a testament not only to talent but also to consistency, fitness, and leadership across all formats.

Reacting to the honour, Dhoni said:

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”

From Small-Town Boy to Global Icon

Dhoni’s international journey began in 2004, though his debut was not a success. He made a strong comeback in 2005 with a knock of 148 against Pakistan, followed by a memorable unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka — still the highest score by a wicketkeeper in ODIs.

The charismatic captain led India to victory in the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in 2007, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy — making him the only captain to win all three ICC white-ball trophies.

Under his Test captaincy, India became the No. 1 ranked team in 2009. He also played many vital innings, including a double century (224) against Australia in 2013 in Chennai.

Even in his final World Cup in 2019, he remained India’s hope till the very end. Though he retired quietly, Dhoni has left behind an unmatched legacy that will inspire generations to come.
