Former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) cricketer AB de Villiers lavished praise on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni’s longevity in the Indian Premier League, likening the CSK captain to a ‘diesel engine’. De Villiers said that the 42-year-old has been an outstanding captain in the immensely popular T20 league.
With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on the horizon, plenty of attention will be on Dhoni as fans and experts continue to speculate about his future. Despite retirement rumours swirling since Dhoni stepped away from international cricket in August 2020, he remains a formidable force, with three years having passed since then.
”There were a lot of rumours about Dhoni finishing up last year; that was not the case, ladies and gentlemen. He would be back again. Will this be his final season? No one knows. He just seems to be this diesel engine that never ends. He keeps running. What an incredible player, what an incredible captain,” de Villiers said in his YouTube show.
CSK will be eager to commence their title defence in IPL 2024 with a victory under the leadership of Dhoni, who aims to secure his sixth title with the franchise. CSK will begin their campaign with a clash against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22.
