Former India captain MS Dhoni has emphasized the importance of fitness for the Indian public, which he believes has declined significantly—especially among children.

Even at the age of 44, Dhoni continues to be an inspiration due to his impressive physique and stamina, as he still plays professional cricket for the Chennai Super Kings. Away from the cricket field, he keeps himself active through other sports such as tennis and golf.

Speaking at a recent event in Neuberg, Dhoni highlighted the issue of modern-day children being less involved in outdoor activities, citing his daughter Ziva as an example. The Indian legend admitted that Ziva is not particularly active in sports but urged parents and individuals to make physical activity a priority and to maintain their fitness.

“Nowadays, the age at which physical activity decreases is coming down. The average fitness level of us, as Indians, has dropped. Even my daughter—I feel she doesn’t do a lot of physical activity. She’s not into sport, so we have to plan things where you are physically active. That’s how it has been. A lot of people don’t play sport,” Dhoni said at the event.

Since retiring from international cricket in 2020, Dhoni has continued to represent Chennai Super Kings each IPL season.

This season, CSK struggled in the absence of regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who got injured in the early part of the season. Dhoni made a few useful contributions with the bat in the lower order, but the team endured a disappointing campaign, finishing at the bottom of the points table.

As with recent seasons, speculation around Dhoni’s retirement continues to grow, but he has yet to make an official decision regarding his playing future.
