Reigning ISL Champions Mumbai City FC are in advanced stages of signing Lalrinzuala Lalbiaknia, the record-highest goal scorer of the I-League 2023-24. According to a source close to RevSportz, Mumbai have overtaken Mohun Bagan SG in the race to secure the Aizawl FC star forward for the upcoming season.
Lalrinzuala has achieved an unprecedented feat, scoring 15 goals and providing 3 assists this season for Aizawl FC. With this tally, the Mizo forward has surpassed Sunil Chhetri and Mohammad Rafi in the list of highest Indian goalscorers in a single I-League season.

Lalbiaknia impressed Indian Head Coach Igor Stimac with his goalscoring prowess, earning a call-up to the national team probables ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Kuwait. Unfortunately, Lalrinzuala couldn’t attend the camp in Bhubaneswar due to a back injury.
In that backdrop, Lalrinzuala’s stellar performance this season has attracted lucrative offers from several ISL clubs. Kolkata giants Mohammedan Sporting Club and Mohun Bagan Super Giants have also shown interest in signing the Mizo forward. Although Mohun Bagan remains in contention along with Mumbai City FC, the green and maroon management has yet to finalize their move.
The Islanders are looking to revamp their squad under Peter Kratky for the next season. With Gurkirat Singh moving to Chennai, Mumbai are eager to fill his void with the inclusion of Lalrinzuala.
