
Namibia have announced their 15-member squad for the men’s T20 World Cup on January 3 which will be held in India and Sri Lanka. The team will be represented by bunch of novice youngsters with little experience of international matches with Gerhard Erasmus as their captain.
Only a few of them has featured in ten international matches.The regular captain Erasmus, will be supported by Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Zane Green, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, Bernard Scholtz, Malan Kruger and Ruben Trumpelmann.
The team will be guided off the field by Craig Williams, with former India World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten.
The fast-bowling attack will be led by 20 year-old Jack Brassell, who has played nine ODIs and 19 T20Is. He will be joined by 23 year old Ben Shikongo, who was the key player of during the qualifier match against Tanzania. Max Heingo is also included in the team who impressed many on debut against South Africa in October.
Namibia’s batting line-up includes Louren Steenkamp, along with young Jan Balt and Dylan Leicher. All-rounder Willem Myburgh will add balance to the team along with Alexander Busing-Volschenk who has been named as the travelling reserve.
Namibia is placed in group A along side tough competition from India, Pakistan, Netherlands and USA. Namibia will begin their world cup campaign against Netherlands on February 10 at Delhi.
