In a major shake-up of England’s women’s cricket, Heather Knight has stepped down as captain after a nine-year tenure, closely following the resignation of head coach Jon Lewis. The leadership command has now passed to star all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt and Charlotte Edwards, the former captain, as their head coach.
The reshuffle comes after the Ashes tour in Australia, where England suffered a 7-0 series whitewash, failing to win a single T20I, ODI or the lone test. Reflecting on the disappointment, Sciver-Brunt admitted, “Obviously, no one likes going through a series where you don’t win a game… people in our team really want to move on from that.”
Now looking ahead, Sciver is preparing for her first full-time assignment as captain, starting the white ball series against West Indies on May 21 and India on June 28. England will play six matches each against two teams, including both T20Is and ODIs.

With two ICC tournament on line the Women’s ODI World Cup in the subcontinent later this year and a T20 World Cup on home ground in 2026, Sciver was optimistic about England’s Chances, she wished, “Any side will say they want to win a World Cup. We have got some great opportunities to show what we can do on the world stage,”.
Her relationship with new head coach Charlotte Edwards, who was the captain of her early international days, added to the excitement. “We both really care about the team and want to see it move forward,” Sciver-Brunt said. This duo recently shared success in winning the Women’s Premier League 2025 with the Mumbai Indians.
