World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has finally shared the reason behind rehiring his fitness trainer, Umberto Ferrara, after winning the Wimbledon 2025 title. As per reports, the Italian had fired Ferrara after his failed doping tests ahead of the 2024 US Open.
A released statement from Sinner’s team read: “The decision has been made in alignment with Jannik’s management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and US Open.”
It also emphasised the role Umberto had already played in Jannik’s growth. “Umberto has played an important role in Jannik’s development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level,” the statement further read.
The four-time Grand Slam champion is currently playing in the Cincinnati Open. After his quarter-final win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the tournament, when asked about Umberto’s return, Sinner said: “Yeah, I think we said it all, everything in the statement. I’m very happy to be here and play again this tournament. It was a different situation. Now everything is different. I felt like, at this point, I needed someone who knew my body better.”
“We worked together for about two years before this break. His work has brought me a lot of benefits. We worked on every area of my body: mobility, stability, and even my body’s endurance has improved. I think he did a great job. I also got along well with Marco [Panichi], but maybe he wasn’t the best choice. I’ve always had a good feeling about Umberto,” Sinner further added.
