In a historic achievement, Olympic and World Champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finally breached the coveted 90-metre mark at the ongoing Doha Diamond League 2025. He was only the 25th man in this sport to cross the 90-metre mark.

Chopra, in his third attempt in the men’s javelin final, recorded a stunning throw of 90.23m. With his first throw of 88.44m, Chopra booked his berth for the Tokyo World Championships, to be held later this year.

Chopra, who has arguably won every major title in his sport, had long been chasing the elusive 90-metre mark to complete his already glorious record tally. His previous personal best of 89.94m, achieved at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022, was finally surpassed in this landmark Diamond League meet.

Recently, Chopra joined forces with Jan Železný, widely regarded as one of the greatest javelin throwers in modern history. The collaboration raised high hopes among fans, who believed that under Železný’s guidance, Chopra could finally surpass the 90m barrier.

In an exclusive interaction with RevSportz ahead of the event, Chopra expressed confidence about his 2025 season debut in Doha and confirmed he was injury-free. “My groin injury is not a problem anymore, and I feel much more confident about this meet,” said the double Olympic medallist.

Now that the Chopra-Železný pair has already produced the much-awaited 90m mark, with the Tokyo World Championships coming up and the Asian Games next year in Nagoya, Japan, Indian athletics fans will be excited for more such wonders.
