Pace bowlers Trent Boult and Kyle Jamieson have been included in New Zealand’s ODI squad for the four-match series in England.
Boult, who has bagged 187 wickets at an average of 23.97, last played an ODI for his country in September 2022. By then, New Zealand Cricket had agreed to release Boult from his contract after the pace bowler requested the board to do so, as he wanted to spend more time with his family and also make himself available for various T20 leagues. However, in May this year, he had expressed his desire to play in the 50-over World Cup.
Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson is returning from a back injury. Earlier in the year, the pace bowler had a recurrence of the back injury and as a result he needed a surgery. He hasn’t played an ODI since April last year, versus Netherlands.
Michael Bracewell, the spinning-all-rounder isn’t a part of the set-up as he has been laid low with an Achilles injury. Jimmy Neesham is missing from action as he awaits the birth of his first child. Mark Chapman too has been granted leave to attend the birth of his first child. Ish Sodhi will return home after the T20I series against England in order to spend time with his family. Kane Williamson will join the set-up during the England tour as he continues his rehabilitation from his ACL injury.
New Zealand are scheduled to play England and Bangladesh in the coming months as they prepare for the ODI World Cup. “It should be a really competitive series and I know the group will be looking forward to returning to play at the likes of The Oval and Lord’s once again,” said New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead.
“We’re delighted to include Kyle in this squad alongside his earlier selection for the T20 squads to play the UAE and England. He’s been working extremely hard on his rehabilitation following back surgery and we’re looking forward to seeing him back playing on the international stage. It’s also great to welcome Trent back into our ODI unit as he begins his preparation towards the World Cup in India.”
Meanwhile, pace bowlers Blair Tickner and Ben Lister were picked in New Zealand’s T20I squad for the three-match rubber versus the UAE. The duo replace Shipley and Lockie Ferguson – the former has been laid low by a back injury while the latter has penned a contract with Welsh Fire to partake in the ongoing Hundred competition.
New Zealand are scheduled to tour the UAE for a T20I series before travelling to England to play T20Is and ODIs. Some of the members who are part of the T20I squad for the UAE tour will also travel to England.
