Australia’s Scott Boland, who claimed 1 for 29 in his 11 overs on Day 2 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final, admitted that he had been pretty nervous before the start of play, despite what has been a stellar beginning to his Test career.
Boland dismissed Shubman Gill, who had shown promise with two boundaries, hitting off stump as the batter shouldered arms, not expecting the ball to nip back so sharply off the seam.
Gill’s wicket added to India’s struggles, as they were left at 30-2 in response to Australia’s first-innings total of 469. Boland’s contribution played a crucial role in putting the Indian team under pressure, with half the side back in the pavilion before stumps.
“He’s a very good player, it was nice to knock him over early,” said Boland of the Gill dismissal, speaking to the broadcasters at the end of the day. “We are in a very good spot now. The pitch is a bit up and down, and hopefully, it will be harder for India to bat tomorrow.
“It felt like that in the middle, a couple balls taking off, a couple keeping low.”
