The 62nd edition of Duleep Trophy will start on Thursday (August 28) in Bengaluru. As per sources close to RevSportz, fans will not be allowed to watch these matches to be held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence ground.

Although the incidents are in no way related, crowd and cricket don’t go hand-in-hand in Bengaluru at the moment, following the stampede tragedy during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory parade at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Duleep Trophy was first played in 1961-62. This year, it has gone back to the zonal format. In 2024-25, it was contested between Team A, B, C and D.

North Zone will take on East Zone, captained by Abhimanyu Easwaran. The Central Zone, led by Dhruv Jurel, will take on the Northeast Zone led by Rongsen Jonathan. The winners of these two matches will advance to the semi-finals. South Zone and West Zone have already qualified for the semi-finals because they were the finalists of the 2023-24 edition.

Shubman Gill, who was selected as the captain of North Zone, is doubtful for the tournament. Stars like Shreyas Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Ruturaj Gaikwad will be seen in action. The semi-finals will start on September 4, while the final is scheduled to be played from September 11-15.
