Akash Madhwal, the standout performer for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2023 Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), firmly asserts that he does not perceive himself as a mere substitute for Jasprit Bumrah. Instead, he wholeheartedly embraces the role bestowed upon him by the team and takes great satisfaction in fulfilling his entrusted responsibilities.
With Bumrah and Jofra Archer injured, Madhwal took the opportunity to shine, claiming remarkable figures of 5/5 in 3.3 overs. His exceptional performance helped the five time IPL winners secure an emphatic 81-run victory and advance to the next stage of the tournament. With thirteen wickets in seven matches this season, Madhwal has proven to be a valuable asset for the franchise.
“I am trying my best to fulfil the responsibilities given to me by the team. I am not Bumrah’s replacement but I’m trying my best to do what I can,” Akash Madhwal said in the post-match presentation after Mumbai Indians registered a 81-run victory against LSG on Wednesday night.
“The wicket at Chepauk was good. As you saw, the ball was not gripping but skidding. I am a swing/sling bowler, and I pitched my deliveries in hard lengths aiming for wickets,” he added.
