Kagiso Rabada made headlines yesterday at the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 against Australia at Lord’s. The match saw an impressive performance by the South Africa pacer, who delivered a terrific five-wicket haul.
As the Proteas won the toss and elected to bowl, the new ball fell into the hands of Rabada, and his lethal energy was unlocked. Striking down top-order batters like Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green, his spell continued with the dismissals of Beau Webster, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc. The pacer played a crucial role in restricting Australia to 212, although he felt it could have been done earlier.
“212, we’d take that. We thought we should’ve had them at 160, but that’s just the way the game goes,” Rabada said during the post-game interview.
Rabada is now in fourth place on the list of highest wicket-takers for the Proteas in Test cricket
Rabada’s five-wicket haul was his 17th in Test cricket. With this, he is now the fourth-highest wicket-taker for the Proteas in Tests, surpassing South African icon Allan Donald.
“To be named in that list of bowlers is special,” Rabada said on the milestone. “As a player growing up and representing South Africa, I’ve been inspired by those who have come before and seen what they have done on the big stage. To be listed among those names is special and long may it continue,” Rabada said.
However, South Africa finished Day 1 on 43/4 as the Australian bowlers struck early. Regarding that, Rabada said: “I think the ball is nipping quite a bit, at times nipping off the slope quite a lot. But I still felt like batters could get in. If you just put more balls in the right area for a long period of time, that would create chances. Right now, we’re 43/4—not the start we were looking for, but there’s a lot of cricket to be played in this Test match. So we’re just going to keep going for it.”
