After the Mumbai Indians’ (MI) 20-run victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 Eliminator, fans on social media began coming up with a possible “ego clash” theory between GT skipper Shubman Gill and MI skipper Hardik Pandya.
Several clips went viral from the match which seemed to suggest that not everything was well between the two. In one clip, it was found that after the toss, Pandya seemed to avoid a handshake with Gill. Later, when Gill got out early in the match, Pandya celebrated in an aggressive manner, which made fans wonder if there was tension between the two.
However, Gill has now put all rumours to rest through a heartfelt Instagram story. Sharing a collage of pictures featuring himself and Pandya, both in IPL jerseys and the Indian team jersey, in that picture Shubman wrote the caption: “Nothing but love (Don’t believe everything you see on the internet) @hardikpandya93.”

Shubman Gill played under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy for GT in 2022 and 2023
The story appears to be a direct response to the viral negative narratives, suggesting there is no issue between the two players. However, when GT won the IPL back in 2022 and became runners-up in 2023, Hardik Pandya was the captain, and Shubman Gill played under his captaincy.
As GT is now out of the tournament, MI have qualified to play Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) to reach the final, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru is waiting for the other team that will join them in the finals at Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
