Senior batter Daryl Mitchell is doubtful for the remainder of the ongoing three-match ODI series against West Indies after sustaining a groin injury during the first match at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Henry Nicholls has been included in the squad for the second match that is scheduled on Wednesday at McLean Park in Napier. The left-handed batter has played 81 ODIs and was last seen playing in April this year. In the Ford Trophy, Nicholls is the highest run-scorer as of now with 306 runs at an average of 76.50. He hit consecutive centuries against Otago and Auckland.

New Zealand can look to play Mark Chapman in the second match, who was benched in the first match. He is also in brilliant form this year with an average of 101.33 from four ODIs.

Former captain Kane Williamson, who was injured during the England series, was not taken in the team as he is preparing for the upcoming Test series against West Indies.

New Zealand are already missing many players in this series for injuries- Glenn Phillips, Will O’Rourke, Mohammad Abbas, Lockie Ferguson , Adam Milne, , and Ben Sears , Finn Allen.

Coming at No. 4, Mitchell played a match-winning knock in the first match. He scored 119 off 118 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes that helped the Kiwis to post a total of 269 and eventually win the match by seven runs. He was also the Player of the Series against England .
