Raja Randhir Singh, acting president of the Olympic Council of Asia, has showered lavish praise on the performance of the Indian shooters who have won laurels at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Himself a trap shooter of repute, Randhir Singh said “this is a fantastic run from Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kushale.”
Randhir has been camping in Paris but does come to the shooting arena as well and is tracking every bit of action. “Shooting is my sport buddy, how do you forget all my six decades of trap shooting for India. I must say what Manu has done is phenomenal, this is like beyond comparison. I congratulate her for these efforts even as I keep an eye on her scores in sports pistol,” Randhir told RevSportz on Friday.
Having seen various generations of shooters in India, Randhir said this breakthrough is important. “I have followed Manu closely and spoke to her in Hangzhou at the Asian Games. These two medals are indeed defining and proof she has worked hard. At the same time, I wish to congratulate Jaspal Rana, he is like my son,” said Randhir, getting emotional. “I knew Jaspal was training her but these results speak volumes about the effort he has put in. I wish Indian shooting can do as well as this and consistently,” added Randhir.

Speaking on Sarabjot Singh, Randhir Singh said winning a medal in mixed team event is “a terrific effort.” He was also lavish in praise for Swapnil Kushale and her coach Deepali Deshpande. “Swapnil has really breached a big barrier. I mean, this is fearless shooting and winning a medal in three position is big. We had bad results in Rio and Tokyo but this turnaround has been defining. Shooting is my sport and I want to see India do well. I think, we got a hint of what is in store during the Asian Games. But the Olympics is the ultimate challenge,” stated Randhir.
As one who shot a gold medal for India in the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok, Randhir feels India have great potential and the rise of fresh talent is very important.
