Ollie Robinson Injury Scare Ahead of Ireland Test and Ashes

Ollie Robinson, the England seamer, has given the team management an injury scare ahead of the one-off Test against Ireland and the five-game Ashes series. Robinson bowled only eight overs on the third day of Sussex’s County Championship Division Two encounter against Glamorgan at Hove.

After not bowling at the start of the morning session, Robinson then completed an eight-over spell before missing the post-lunch sessions of play. “Ollie has a sore left ankle, and he will be scanned on Monday to see how bad he is,” said Paul Farbrace, the Sussex coach, who has previously been part of the England set-up as well. “We knew it was sore yesterday. We’ll find out what the issue is on Monday. It was precautionary. There was no point in making it worse.

“It’s the walking more than the running in. He was all right running in down the slope. He did OK. It’s a joint decision between the Sussex medical team and the England medical team. Much as we want him out there bowling and taking wickets, it’s not fair on him to make the injury worse. So, there was good conversation last night and again this morning.”

To add to England’s disquiet, Marnus Labuschagne smashed a hundred for Glamorgan, in what was his final game for the county before he joins up with the Australian team for the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
