Boria Majumdar in Paris
As a student of history, I love my artefacts. And a trip to Omega House in Paris takes you down memory lane. From the 1932 watch which was used to time-keep at the LA Olympics to how the timekeeping process changed over time to make sure that no athlete was at a disadvantage, it is a beautifully curated installation that has been a high point for me in Paris in the middle of all the hustle of sport.
Located at Hotel de Poulpry in a narrow bylane, you might miss Omega House if you aren’t told about it. But if you know your stuff, you will surely make a visit. And as I entered, I saw someone who I consider one of the greatest ever seeing some of the installations on show. I had actually first met Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill at the Omega House in Rio, and it was a pleasant surprise to see her again. When I mentioned that meeting to her, she suggested that we take a photo and meet again at Omega House in LA 2028! Her car was waiting and hence the interview couldn’t be done, but we did take a photo.
Going inside, the house has a fantastic exhibition of artefacts and watches and it documents the journey of how Omega has been part of the Olympics story and how timekeeping and score-keeping has evolved over time. You can try your hand at the starting block and, in sum, it is an experience that you don’t want to miss.

The lunch served was delicious French cuisine and the dessert was heavenly. I did put on a few hundred calories, but it is okay with the 8-9 kilometres that I am walking every day in Paris.
If you think it is the end of the story, no, it isn’t. That was when Neeraj Chopra, an Omega ambassador, came in wearing one of the most slick and lightweight Omega watches I have seen. He was wearing the watch in his left hand, and anyone interested in sports must try it on if they can afford it.
Neeraj was humble as always and we settled down to a fascinating long conversation. You have already read and seen details of the conversations on RevSportz, and may I say, it was half a day well spent.
To anyone in Paris, I strongly recommend a visit in the next few days as long as the house is active.
