During their match against Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore were penalised for a slow over-rate for the second time this season. As a result, the team, including Virat Kohli, standing in as captain for the injured Faf du Plessis, received a fine for violating the IPL’s Code of Conduct. If the team repeats the offence in again, the consequences will include a ban for the captain.
Despite their over-rate issues, Bangalore managed to clinch a seven-run victory over Rajasthan in a closely fought encounter. However, Kohli and his playing XI, along with the impact substitute, were slapped with fines of Rs 24 lakh and Rs 6 lakh, or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever was lower. This was not the first time Bangalore had been punished for slow over-rates, with du Plessis, their designated skipper, having been fined Rs 12 lakh for the same offense during the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

Are Captains Under Greater Pressure in the IPL?
Bangalore take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru on April 26. With the spectre of another fine and potential ban looming over their heads, the team’s captain, whether it be Kohli or du Plessis, will undoubtedly aim to ensure that their bowling innings is completed within the allotted 90-minute period, which includes two strategic time-outs of two-and-a-half minutes each. Any failure to do so would be costly, both in terms of points and finances, and could put a dent in their IPL campaign.
