Robson Robinho was brought up in Brazil and has enjoyed plenty of success in Brazilian club football. Just a few months ago, he played in the Sao Paulo league, where he even faced Neymar da Silva. Over the last three years, while playing for Bangladesh champions Bashundhara Kings, he collected seven trophies. His personal milestones are equally impressive — 64 goals and 49 assists in 97 appearances.

Now, the prolific forward, fondly known as the “goal-machine,” is all set to don the famous Green and Maroon jersey. Robson Robinho has officially signed with Mohun Bagan Super Giant. The 30-year-old Brazilian star will arrive in the City of Joy, Kolkata, on Monday morning, becoming the Mariners’ sixth foreign recruit.

He will join the squad straightaway to prepare for the upcoming ACL2 campaign. Known for his goalscoring as well as creative play, Robson’s arrival is expected to significantly strengthen the attacking department under head coach Jose Molina. Versatile in attack, he is comfortable playing on both wings and can also slot in as a No. 10.

After signing for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, Robson spoke to the club’s media team. He said:
“I have an earlier experience of playing against Mohun Bagan for Bashundhara Kings. Since then, I know that Mohun Bagan is India’s best and most successful club. How I played in that game, I think Mohun Bagan fans still remember. Now, in this Green and Maroon jersey, I am hoping for the same kind of success. Just wait.”

He further added: “Last year Mohun Bagan were crowned champions in both India’s best league and cup. In the last five years, no Indian club has achieved what they have done. Top foreigners also play here. Most of the Indian internationals also play in this club. I am also coming now as a teammate of theirs to help them. I want to bring more trophies to the club while playing with them.”

On his readiness, Robson explained: “To keep myself fit, I have been doing physical training daily. I am hopeful that in two weeks, I can adapt with the team from all aspects. I believe that before the first match of Mohun Bagan in the ACL2, I can establish myself as an integral member of the team.”

Talking about his role, he shared: “I love to score and help others score goals. But above all of these, the team comes first for me. So if you want to know my personal goal, it is only to win many trophies for the club. Mohun Bagan are already at the pinnacle of success. If the club manages to get more success on top of that, then that will be the fulfilment of my aim.”

Finally, recalling his most memorable moment, Robson said: “It was my honour to play against Neymar. Off the field, I do not have that much association with him. Earlier this year in February, during a match in the Sao Paulo league, he played against me. That day, I will always remember, because I played against the best player of Brazil’s national team.”
