Pakistan become No.1 ODI side, Babar Azam shatters records

Pakistan men’s cricket team has achieved the top spot in the ICC ODI rankings following their triumph against New Zealand in the fourth ODI at Karachi’s National Bank Cricket Arena. It is worth noting that Pakistan has the highest win percentage of 70.37 in 50-over cricket since the World Cup 2019, winning 19 out of 27 matches.

Babar Azam, the Pakistan skipper, also set new records in ODI cricket by becoming the fastest player to score 18 ODI centuries. He also surpassed Hashim Amla’s record of fastest to 5000 ODI runs, reaching the milestone in just 97 innings as compared to Amla’s 101 innings. Virat Kohli and Viv Richards had achieved the milestone in 114 innings.

Having already secured a 4-0 lead in the ODI series against New Zealand, the Babar-led Pakistan would aim to whitewash the Black Caps in the fifth and final ODI in Karachi.
