Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins is set to miss the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to begin from October 1, as per reports. The team has The Ashes against England in November for which the management has decided to keep a check on the workloads of the players.

Cummins was last part of Australia’s three-match Test series win against the West Indies in July, where he picked up eight wickets. In the ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa, the Aussie skipper took seven wickets.

The fast-bowler is, however, expected to be part of the ODI series against India after the New Zealand tour. The three-match ODI series is scheduled from October 19-25. Ahead of that, Cummins is also likely to feature in the Sheffield Shield game against New South Wales, starting from October 4.

Both the India series and Sheffield Shield games will provide Cummins and the team adequate preparation for The Ashes. He alongside fellow bowlers Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland will lead Australia’s pace attack in The Ashes.

Australia’s Hazlewood in a recent interview has confirmed that the Tests players, including Cummins, will have to undergo a different training program for the important games.

“The Test guys will play more than one Shield game,” Hazlewood said on Thursday. “They’ll probably play two or three, but everyone’s on different programs. I used it last year and found it very beneficial – time on the field, multiple spells in a day, it’s hard to replicate at training.”
