Former Australian captain Greg Chappell heaped words of praise on Pat Cummins and called him a very good leader of men. Speaking exclusively to RevSportz, Chappell said Cummins “has great common sense and also has great support in the form of senior players like Steve Smith and coach Andrew McDonald.”
Cummins, who had to leave midway into the India series in February March to tend to his ailing mother who passed away soon after, is now back at his best having led Australia to a fantastic win against India in the WTC final and pulled off a miracle last night against England after his team was reduced to 227-8 chasing 280.
Chappell further said, “If Pat is stays fit it doesn’t matter what India or England do he will be ready for them and will do well. He is a good human being and has a very good understanding of the game. He takes everything comfortably in his side. Whatever he has got in front of him he doesn’t get flustered and takes it comfortably.”
This quality of his stood out last night during the run chase as he guided his team to an improbable victory and started the Ashes on a winning note. The second Test will be played at Lords from the 28th of June.
