In the 37th match of IPL 2025, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced off against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. RCB’s spinners and disciplined death bowling were the standout performers, restricting PBKS to a modest total of 157 for six. The credit goes mainly to the spin duo of Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya, along with excellent death-over spells from Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The spinners played a crucial role in the middle overs, halting PBKS’s scoring momentum after a strong start of 42/1 in just 4.2 overs. Suyash Sharma claimed two vital wickets, dismissing the dangerous Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis. Krunal Pandya complemented him perfectly, taking the wickets of Shreyas lyer and Prabhsimran Singh, tightening RCB’s grip on the match.
“If we bat to our potential, we can chase this down.” – RCB’s Krunal Pandya
In the final four overs, RCB’s death bowling was exceptional. The experienced duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood displayed outstanding control and precision, conceding only one boundary in the last 24 balls. Their tight lines, yorkers, and variations prevented PBKS from finishing strongly, swinging the momentum firmly in RCB’s favour.
Reflecting on RCB’s strong bowling performance, Krunal Pandya spoke to the broadcasters and said: “Pretty good effort. The way they started in the power-play, they put us under pressure by playing some shots. From that to restrict them to 157 is a pretty good effort. When we were bowling pace-on deliveries, it was much easier… Power-play becomes very crucial. If we bat to our potential, we can chase this down.”
