On Friday, May 26, Cricket Australia (CA) announced that Queensland’s uncapped wicketkeeper, Jimmy Peirson, will serve as the reserve keeper for the second Test in the upcoming Ashes series in England. Peirson will take the place of Josh Inglis, who will be absent as he awaits the birth of his first child in Perth.
Inglis will remain in the squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against India and the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, joining the team at a later stage in the series.
While Alex Carey holds the position of the first-choice wicketkeeper for Australia, Inglis serves as a back-up option. Peirson will join the squad ahead of the Lord’s Test, with Inglis rejoining the team later in the series.
Peirson’s selection comes as a result of his consistent performances in the Sheffield Shield over the past three seasons, accumulating over 3000 runs at an average of 34.75, including six centuries. He further showcased his abilities by scoring an unbeaten 128 for Australia A in Sri Lanka, contributing to a successful chase of 370 runs in Hambantota. This outstanding display has earned him a well-deserved call-up to the national team.
