A two-time World Cup winner with the Indian team and a veteran IPL spinner, Piyush Chawla has retired from all forms of cricket. Chawla announced it on his social media by sharing a post along with some images of his career while playing for India across all three formats and representing different IPL franchises.
He shared those with a caption written, “Closing this chapter with Gratitude!! Retiring from all formats of the game, thank you everyone for your support throughout this beautiful journey ❤️ #retired.”
He first made headlines when he bowled India’s greatest batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, in a Challenger Trophy game played in the Indian domestic circuit.
He was first selected for the Indian team when England visited India, and he made his Test debut in Mohali on March 9, 2006, against England. In his first match, he took only one wicket — that of Andrew Flintoff. He became the second youngest player after Sachin Tendulkar to make his debut for India.

He had to wait two years to play his next Test, which was against South Africa, where he took 2/66 in the first innings, while in the second innings he went wicketless, bowling only four overs. He played his last Test in 2012 against England in Nagpur and took 4/69 in the first innings. He finished his Test career with seven wickets from three matches.

The highlight of his ODI career was being part of India’s 2011 World Cup-winning squad.
He also played seven T20Is for India, taking four wickets, but it was in the IPL where he truly made his mark. Chawla had a long and successful IPL career, with his most impactful stints coming with Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He was a part of the squad that won the T20 World Cup in 2007.
