Police raid Paris Olympics headquarters for alleged embezzlement of public funds

The police, in Paris, are conducting a search at the headquarters of the Paris 2024 Olympics organizing committee and those of its infrastructure partner as part of investigations into alleged embezzlement of public funds and favouritism.

The search was initiated by the French national financial prosecutor’s office, as per reports. The development is likely to be part of a preliminary investigation launched in 2017 into contracts made by the Summer Games’ organising committee.

Paris 2024 released a statement confirming the ongoing search and expressed full cooperation with the investigators to assist in their inquiries.

“A search is currently under way at the headquarters of the Organising Committee,” Paris 2024 said in a statement. “Paris 2024 is cooperating fully with the investigators to facilitate their inquiries.”

No additional information was provided by Paris 2024, and their spokesperson stated that there is nothing else to share at this time.

The Olympics are scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 6.
