The ‘no-handshake’ stance from Team India after their big win over Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup has become the talk of the town. However, after the match, several posts on social media claimed Ricky Ponting, the former Aussie skipper and the current Punjab Kings coach, criticised India on Sky Sports, calling them “the big losers” for not shaking hands.
But now, Ponting himself has come up and raised his voice regarding the fake quote that has been going around on social media associating his name. On X (formerly known as Twitter), he wrote, “I am aware of certain comments being attributed to me on social media. Please know that I categorically did not make those statements and indeed have made no public comment about the Asia Cup at all.”
Sky Sports doesn’t even have the UK rights for this Asia Cup. TNT Sports and discovery+ are the official broadcasters, which TV listings show. By the time Ponting explained the truth, screenshots of the fake quote were already everywhere. People shared them on many sites, and even Australian media mentioned it before reporting his denial.
Meanwhile, after India refused to shake hands after their victory, Pakistan officials issued a complaint against the match referee and even warned that they might withdraw from the tournament. However, reportedly, their complaint has been rejected and now, on September 17, they are now all set toface UAE in their last group clash.
