Ollie Pope, England’s Test vice-captain, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes series due to a shoulder injury suffered during the second Test at Lord’s. Australia are leading the five-match series 2-0.
Pope injured his shoulder twice while fielding and was unable to contribute significantly with the bat. The severity of the paid forced him out for a long part of Australia’s first innings. Scans revealed that the No 3 batter has to undergo surgery. In four innings, Pope made 31, 14, 42 and three for an average of 22.50.
“England and Surrey batter Ollie Pope has been ruled out of the rest of the LV=Insurance Men’s Ashes Series after dislocating his right shoulder during the second Ashes Test at Lord’s last week,” said the England and Wales Cricket Board. “Scans in London on Monday revealed the full extent of the injury and he will miss the rest of the summer campaign and will require surgery.”
Dan Lawrence, who has batted in every position from three to seven for England in Tests, is expected to replace Pope in the squad for the third Test.
