India opener Pratika Rawal has been ruled out of the 2025 Women’s World Cup semifinal against Australia, after she injured her knee and ankle during the league game versus Bangladesh. According to sources, scans indicated that the 25-year-old has “severe ankle sprain with a fracture”, and there is a chance of her being ruled out of the rest of the tournament.

In the 21st over of Bangladesh’s innings, Rawal picked up the injury while fielding near the midwicket boundary. Her right foot got stuck in the ground as she was trying to save a boundary, which caused a twist in her ankle, and she fell to the ground in pain. A stretcher was sent immediately, but she managed to walk off with help from the team physiotherapist. Incidentally, Amanjot Kaur opened the batting in her absence against Bangladesh.

Her absence will be a major concern for the team. Rawal has been in brilliant form throughout the tournament, having scored 308 runs in six matches at an average of 51.33, which also includes a match-winning century in the crucial game versus New Zealand.

She is also the second highest run-scorer in the ongoing World Cup, just behind her partner Smriti Mandhana (365 runs).
