Pratika Rawal Under Injury Cloud Ahead of Semi-Final Clash Against Australia

India opener Pratika Rawal suffered knee and ankle injuries during the first innings of the last league game of the 2025 Women’s World Cup against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai.

The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s innings when Rawal hurt herself while fielding near the midwicket boundary. In the 21st over, Rawal’s right foot got stuck in the turf as she tried to stop a boundary but couldn’t. In the process, she twisted her ankle, fell to the ground, and appeared to be in severe pain. A stretcher was sent out immediately, but she managed to leave the field with assistance from the physiotherapist.

When India came out to bat in the second innings, it was Amanjot Kaur who opened alongside Smriti Mandhana.

“The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring her progress,” the board said in a statement.

The 25-year-old Rawal has been India’s standout batter in this World Cup, scoring 308 runs in six innings at an average of 51.33. She struck a century in the previous game against New Zealand, which helped India secure a semi-final spot. With that knock, Rawal became the joint-fastest player to reach 1,000 ODI runs. She is currently the second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing World Cup, behind her opening partner Mandhana.

Radha Yadav also injured her foot during the same match, but the issue appeared to be minor as she continued playing.

India, who finished fourth in the league stage, will now face table-toppers Australia in the second semi-final on Thursday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will be sweating on Rawal’s fitness ahead of the knockout game.
