Prithvi Shaw and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been named in the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s 17-member squad for the All-India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, to be played in Chennai from 18 August to 9 September. The team will be led by experienced batter Ankit Bawane.

Gaikwad will feature only in the opening match before leaving to join the West Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, which will be held in Bengaluru.

For Shaw, this will be his first tournament for Maharashtra after moving from Mumbai ahead of the new season. The top-order batter will be keen to make a strong start for his new side.

Wicketkeeper-batter Saurabh Nawale will also depart with Gaikwad after the first match to join the West Zone squad. Even without two of their key players, Maharashtra will aim to put in a strong performance in Chennai.

The Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament is one of India’s oldest domestic cricket competitions, organised by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). Previously contested by 12 teams, this year’s edition will feature 16 strong sides with talented players from across the country. With Shaw eager to make an impact and Gaikwad bringing valuable experience, Maharashtra will hope to begin the tournament on a winning note under Bawane’s leadership.
