
Prithvi Shaw cracked a brilliant innings of 66 in 36 deliveries, in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Trophy game versus Hyderabad. He has also taken over as the captain of Maharashtra after Ruturaj Gaikwad left for India’s ODI series against South Africa.
Shaw smashed his half-century in just 23 balls. His knock included nine boundaries and three sixes, while chasing 192 runs against Hyderabad. He built a strong partnership with the young Arshin Kulkarni as they added 117 in 12 overs. Kulkarni scored 89 runs off 54 balls. Rahul Tripathi also added 26 runs off just 11 balls as Maharashtra won the match by eight wickets.
Shaw shifted over from Mumbai to Maharashtra ahead of this domestic season and has been in excellent form. Before today’s knock, he had already impressed in the Ranji Trophy with scores of 75 against Kerala and a double-century against Chandigarh. He has also smashed two half-centuries against Karnataka and Punjab. His strong performances have made him Maharashtra’s top run-scorer this season with 470 runs at an average of 67.14 and strike rate of 92.33.
Shaw has not been a part of the national set-up since 2021. He even went unsold in the 2025 IPL auction. The opener last played for Delhi Capitals in 2024.
