In the ongoing Royal One Day Cup match between Northamptonshire and Somerset on August 9, Prithvi Shaw delivered an outstanding performance by achieving a remarkable double ton, marking his second List-A double hundred.

Opening the innings for Northamptonshire, Shaw displayed a masterclass against the Somerset bowlers, sending the ball to all parts of the ground en-route to his score of 244 from 153 balls. His innings featured an impressive tally of 28 boundaries and 11 sixes.

The right-handed batter reached the milestone in just 129 deliveries, following his earlier century completed in 81 balls. Partnering with Ricardo Vasconcelos, Shaw established a century partnership for the second wicket, and later formed a substantial 94-run stand with Sam Whiteman for the third wicket.

Shaw’s innings concluded when he was caught by George Thomas at deep mid-wicket off Danny Lamb’s delivery in the 50th over. His batting display significantly contributed to Northamptonshire’s total score of 415-8 within the allotted 50 overs.

Shaw’s accomplishment elevated him to becoming the third batter in the history of the tournament to achieve a double century. Furthermore, he surpassed Oliver Robinson’s previous record of 206 runs for the highest individual score in the tournament. This stellar performance by Shaw marked his resurgence after relatively modest outings in his first two matches of his stint for Northamptonshire against Gloucestershire (34) and Sussex (26).

Shaw, who’s latest appearance for India dates back to a match against Sri Lanka in July 2021, is determined to make a comeback in the Indian team.
