Prithvi Shaw made a fantastic debut for Maharashtra as he smashed 111 runs off 141 balls in the ongoing Buchi Babu Tournament 2025 in Chennai. He reached his century in 122 deliveries against Chhattisgarh, hitting 14 boundaries and a six in his innings.

Maharashtra had a strong start on Day 2, reaching 71 without loss. However, a sudden collapse saw them lose four wickets for just 15 runs, slipping to 86/4. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also departed cheaply, but Shaw stood firm and carried on. Despite his efforts, Maharashtra were bowled out for 217 in 73 overs, giving Chhattisgarh a first-innings lead of 35 runs.

By stumps on Day 2, Chhattisgarh had reached 43/2, extending their overall lead to 78 runs with eight wickets in hand. Maharashtra’s Hitesh Walunj provided the breakthroughs, dismissing wicketkeeper-batter Shashank Chandrakar (8 off 16) and Avnish Singh Dhaliwal (7 off 22).

Shaw’s innings was closely watched given his high-profile move ahead of the domestic season. The former Mumbai opener joined Maharashtra after securing a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). He had not featured in any major tournaments since the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he scored 197 runs for Mumbai.

Shaw has also been absent from the Indian Premier League (IPL) since going unsold in the 2025 auction. He represented Delhi Capitals (DC) for seven seasons, scored 1,892 runs in 79 matches at an average of 23.94.
