Prithvi Shaw, the promising young opener of Indian cricket, has expressed his lack of understanding and communication regarding his exclusion from the national team.
Despite a strong start to his international career, including a century on Test debut, Shaw faced several challenges along the way. After being away from the Indian set-up since the Sri Lanka tour in 2021, he made a comeback in the T20I side for the series against New Zealand but did not get a chance to play. He was then not considered for the West Indies tour or the Asian Games.
“When I was dropped [from the Indian team], I didn’t get to know the reason. Someone was saying it could be fitness. But of course, I came here [to Bengaluru] and cleared all the tests at the NCA, again scored runs and again came back to the T20 team,” Shaw told Cricbuzz.
Despite scoring runs in the domestic arena, he was not included in any squad for the West Indies tour, which features young players in the absence of established stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
“I didn’t get a chance in the West Indies. I’m disappointed but you just have to move forward. I can’t do anything, I can’t fight with anyone,” Shaw added.
The return of Shaw to the Indian team remains uncertain, adding intrigue to his future prospects.
