The Bazball approach has been one of the major talking points of the ongoing India-England Test series. The visitors showed glimpses of their aggressive methods in the opening Test in Hyderabad, where Ollie Pope cracked a brilliant double-ton to help his side chart a stunning turnaround. However, India took that defeat in their stride and went on to win the next three games to seal the series.

Rohit Sharma, the India skipper, took a dig at the label being given to England’s template. “I just don’t know what Bazball means,” Rohit told reporters on the eve of the fifth Test in Dharamsala. “I haven’t seen wild swinging from anyone. England have played better cricket than they were here last time. But I still don’t know what Bazball means.”

Rohit also didn’t spare Ben Duckett, the England opener. After Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s opener, had crunched a double-ton in the Rajkot Test, Duckett had observed that England deserved some credit for the way other sides were playing.

On his part, Rohit reminded Duckett that Indian cricket has produced players like Rishabh Pant, renowned for his pyrotechnics. “There was a guy called Rishabh Pant in our team, probably Duckett hasn’t seen him play,” he pointed out.

Rohit then went on to shower praises on his teammates for the way they have performed in pressure situations. To illustrate the point further, in the crucial Ranchi Test, Dhruv Jurel handled difficult moments with aplomb, playing important hands in both the first and second innings.  “It has been a series of comebacks for us,” said Rohit. “Whenever we were put under pressure, we were able to put the pressure back on the opposition. That was pleasing for me.”

There has also been a sense of intrigue surrounding the overall conditions for the final Test. Here’s what Rohit had to say about the pitch and the conditions. “Looks like a typical Indian pitch,” he said. “There will be some movement when the temperature drops but it looks like a good pitch.”
