At a glittering charity gala held at Grosvenor House in London, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh showered praises on Team India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill for his phenomenal performance in the ongoing Test series against England. Speaking exclusively to Revsportz, during the YouWeCan event, Yuvraj expressed pride in Gill’s batting heroics, especially in the second Test at Edgbaston, where the Indian captain amassed a staggering 269 in the first innings, followed by a masterful 161 in the second.
“Personally, I am very proud of him as a senior and an elder brother,” said Yuvraj. “I am extremely happy for his father and family. He has taken this Test series against England as a challenge and batted exceptionally well. I hope he goes on to win more matches for the country in the future.”
The YouWeCan charity gala, hosted by Yuvraj, brought together a constellation of cricket stars to raise funds for cancer patients, particularly from underserved communities. A cancer survivor himself, Yuvraj established the Foundation to support individuals and families battling the disease.
The evening kicked off with a red-carpet welcome, followed by a riveting talk show featuring two cricketing legends — Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara — who shared memorable anecdotes from their playing days. The event also served as a celebration of the current Indian team’s recent performances, with several fun and light-hearted awards handed out.
Gill, alongside India’s Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, presented awards to team members in a ceremony that had the entire audience in splits. Rishabh Pant bagged the “Bhai jaldi aa, bus nikal jayegi” award, while Ravindra Jadeja was recognised for having the best-kept beard and hair. Jasprit Bumrah won the award for the best comeback. And fittingly, Gill himself received the title of the best-dressed player in the team.
The guest list was star-studded, including cricketing icons like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Kevin Pietersen, Darren Gough, Ashish Nehra, and Chris Gayle, among others. One of the event’s highlights was the auction of a sparkling portrait of Yuvraj, created entirely with Swarovski diamonds by renowned artist San B.
The YouWeCan gala proved not only to be a glamorous celebration of cricket and camaraderie but also a meaningful effort towards a noble cause.
