In an announcement for the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2024, India is set to field a formidable squad led by double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and World No. 8 Prannoy HS. Scheduled for February 13-19 in Shah Alam, Malaysia, this prestigious team event holds significant weight in the Race to Paris 2024 Olympic qualification.
PV Sindhu, making a comeback after a four-month hiatus due to a knee injury, will be joined by rising stars Anmol Kharb, Tanvi Sharma, and Ashmita Chaliha in the women’s singles category. The men’s team, spearheaded by the consistent Prannoy HS, includes talented players like Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and recently crowned national champion Chirag Sen.
The men’s doubles responsibility rests on the shoulders of the accomplished duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who had a remarkable 2023 with six titles, including golds at the Asian Games and Asian Championships. The women’s doubles will see Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand, Ashwini Ponnappa-Tanisha Crasto, and Priya Devi Konjengbam-Shruti Mishra in action.
The Indian men’s team, eyeing a historic performance, previously secured bronze medals in the 2016 and 2018 editions of the tournament.
