Roger Binny’s tenure as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India will come to an end as he turns 70 on July 19. Due to the age limit, reports have started to circulate that BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla might be appointed as the interim President for three months before the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September.

Speaking on the matter to ANI, Shukla addressed the speculation, clarifying that his potential new position is nothing more than a standard procedure the BCCI follows when appointing the next President. “These are useless talks. When one spot is about to get vacant, the person next in line gets the interim charge before the election. It is a procedural thing,” said Shukla.

Shukla has been part of the BCCI for a long time. He was re-elected as the Chairman in 2015, after which he took the position of Vice President in 2020. Shukla, who is currently 65 years old, will become eligible to stand in the elections for the full-time role of BCCI President once he turns 66 this September. If elected, he will be the 37th President of the BCCI.

Roger Binny was the 36th BCCI President

Roger Binny was elected as the 36th BCCI President in 2022, after former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly completed his three-year tenure. Before becoming President, Binny served as a member of the BCCI selection committee.

He played a crucial role in India’s first World Cup win in 1983, finishing as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker with 18 wickets. He was influential during his tenure as BCCI President. Under his leadership, Team India won the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

A notable addition under his presidency in women’s cricket was the introduction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), launched to mirror the fan-favourite Indian Premier League (IPL).
