Kerala vs Maharashtra
After being put in to bat, Maharashtra lost five wickets with just 18 runs on the board. Three wickets fell without a run being scored in the first seven deliveries. Then, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Jalaj Saxena forged a 122-run partnership to rescue their team from troubled waters. Gaikwad batted well but fell short of his century, missing out by nine runs. Stumps were called early on Day 1 due to bad light. Maharashtra ended the day on 179/7 in 59 overs.
Saurashtra vs Karnataka
On the first day in Rajkot, spin dominated proceedings. Saurashtra’s left-arm spinner Dharmendrasinh Jadeja bagged four wickets. After Mayank Agarwal was dismissed early, Devdutt Padikkal and vice-captain Karun Nair added 125 runs for the third wicket. Padikkal was dismissed on 96, while Karun, in his comeback game for Karnataka, scored 73. Post-tea, Smaran Ravichandran dominated the bowlers to remain unbeaten on 66. Shreyas Gopal, who had an early reprieve, will resume on 38, with the visitors ending the day at 295/5.
Madhya Pradesh vs Punjab
Saransh Jain was the star for Madhya Pradesh on the opening day. The off-spinner ran through the Punjab batting line-up with a six-for, helping his team bowl out the visitors for 232 in the first innings. The hosts negotiated the final three overs of the day without losing a wicket.
Vidarbha vs Nagaland
The defending Ranji champions started the tournament with a bang. On a good batting surface at the Centre of Excellence, 24-year-old Aman Mokhade’s unbeaten 148 powered Vidarbha to 302 against a hapless Nagaland bowling attack. After losing Atharva Taide early, Dhruv Shorey rebuilt the innings alongside Aman before being dismissed. Ravikumar Samarth failed to capitalise on his promotion up the order on debut, falling for 3. The ever-reliable Yash Rathod came in at five and breezed past fifty. Vidarbha will look to bat long and post a big total. With the platform laid, Day 2 will be all about capitalising for the set batters.
Tamil Nadu vs Jharkhand
In his comeback game for Jharkhand, captain Ishan Kishan struck a century on a pitch that offered something for everyone. Batting at No. 5, the wicketkeeper-batter ended the day on 125 not out. He will resume tomorrow with Sahil Raj at the other end on 64. Jharkhand ended the day on 307/6. For Tamil Nadu, Gurjapneet Singh was the pick of the bowlers with a three-wicket haul, while fellow left-armer DT Chandrasekar claimed two wickets.
Hyderabad vs Delhi
After losing two early wickets, Sanat Sangwan battled hard against a disciplined Hyderabad bowling attack for his 91. While Sanat took his time, skipper Ayush Badoni played a brisk knock of 53 from the other end before being removed by Chama Milind. Young Ayush Doseja stole the spotlight with his strokeplay. The left-handed batter, unbeaten on 97, will look to convert it into a big score on Day 2. Despite three scores of fifty or more, Delhi ended Day on at 256/3. The Hyderabad bowlers built pressure but struggled to create wicket-taking opportunities. One of the talking points from this match has been the omission of Nitish Rana.
Rajasthan vs Chhattisgarh
Against a seasoned Rajasthan bowling attack featuring Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Aniket Chaudhary and Manav Suthar, all-rounder Ajay Mandal scored a hard-fought 116 to take his team to 287 after being reduced to 49/5. The former CSK all-rounder looked comfortable against both pace and spin. Aniket was the most successful bowler for Rajasthan, finishing with three wickets, followed by Khaleel Ahmed with two. Manav bowled the most number of overs for his side — 26 out of 87.
Uttar Pradesh vs Andhra
A fighting century from Srikar Bharat and an unbeaten 94 from Shaik Rasheed have put Andhra on top, as they amassed 289 on the opening day. The Uttar Pradesh bowlers toiled hard but managed just three wickets. Two of those fell in the last 45 minutes of the day, courtesy of Aaqib Khan.
