A sparkling century by Yashasvi Jaiswal helped Mumbai secure a draw against Rajasthan in Jaipur. Karnataka registered a thumping win over Kerala, their first of the season. While last season’s runners-up fell in Thiruvananthapuram, defending champions Vidarbha were denied an outright victory by a resilient Tamil Nadu team. Mohammad Shami went wicketless in the drawn game between Bengal and Tripura.
Rajasthan vs Mumbai
Days ahead of the start of the Test series against South Africa, Jaiswal warmed up with a big hundred at Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The southpaw struck 18 fours and a six in his innings of 156, at a strike rate of 87.20. He shared a 149-run opening partnership with Musheer Khan, who scored 63. In contrast, Siddhesh Lad, batting at No. 4, took 105 deliveries for his 19 runs. Jaiswal’s innings and his opening partnership with Musheer helped Mumbai avoid defeat. Rajasthan earned three points from the game courtesy of their first-innings lead.
Karnataka vs Kerala
Concussion substitute Apple Tom tried to delay the inevitable with a cameo, but Mohsin Khan’s career-best six-wicket haul helped Karnataka bowl Kerala out for 184 in the second innings, securing an innings and 164-run victory — their first outright win of the season. Karun Nair was named Player of the Match for his double century in the first innings. Karnataka captain Mayank Agarwal would have been pleased with his team’s performance, as they not only won but also collected a valuable bonus point.
Tamil Nadu vs Vidarbha
It went down to the wire. Vidarbha’s bowlers toiled hard, and skipper Akshay Wadkar tried everything possible but could not break the determined partnership between Baba Indrajith and R Sai Kishore. The right-left combination batted for over 100 deliveries. With time running out, Wadkar eventually accepted the draw. Defending champions Vidarbha would feel robbed of victory in Coimbatore but still took three points from the game, placing them second in the Group A table with 13 points.
Tripura vs Bengal
Hanuma Vihari’s 25th first-class century rescued Tripura, helping them avoid the follow-on and secure a first-innings lead of 49 runs, earning three points in a rain-hit fixture against Bengal in Agartala. After Bengal lost their openers for ducks and their No. 3 for three, all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed provided some late entertainment with a rapid fifty. Mohammad Shami went wicketless in the 25 overs he bowled, while all other Bengal bowlers claimed wickets.
Punjab vs Goa
Nehal Wadhera and Ramandeep Singh, who have been selected for the India A for the Rising Stars Asia Cup, remained unbeaten after Punjab were forced to bat following Goa’s declaration in the first session of the last day. The partnership between Nehal and Ramandeep ensured Goa’s late push for victory was thwarted in Mullanpur.
Delhi vs Puducherry
The final day in Delhi was marked by the brilliance of openers Arpit Rana and Sanat Sangwan. Both players completed centuries and forged an unbroken 321-run opening partnership in 81 overs. This was the 26th instance of an opening pair recording a 300-run partnership or more and only the fourth such occasion for Delhi. Preferred ahead of Priyansh Arya to open, Arpit converted his maiden first-class hundred into 170. Sanat narrowly missed a century by one run in the first innings but reached triple figures in the second. Despite their efforts, Puducherry still earned three points, leaving Delhi openers efforts in vain.
