Jammu and Kashmir made headlines on Day 3 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy round with a memorable victory over a star-studded Mumbai side, marking their first win against them in over a decade. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s resilient second-innings century at the Chinnaswamy Stadium went in vain as Punjab suffered a crushing defeat to Karnataka by an innings and 207 runs. Bengal suffered a humiliating 283-run loss to Haryana, while Gujarat wrapped up their match against Uttarakhand with ease.
Mumbai vs Jammu & Kashmir
Mumbai were bowled out for 290 in their second innings, setting Jammu & Kashmir a target of 205 runs in the match’s final innings. J&K’s top order, anchored by Shubham Khajuria, Yawer Hassan and Vivrant Sharma, provided a strong platform for the chase. The victory was eventually secured by Abid Mushtaq and wicketkeeper-batter Kanhaiya Wadhawan. Shams Mulani was Mumbai’s standout performer with the ball, claiming 4/54 in 15 overs, but he lacked adequate support from the other end. Tanush Kotian, in particular, struggled to contain runs, further easing J&K’s path to victory.
Karnataka vs Punjab
Facing a massive 420-run deficit, Punjab resumed their second innings at 24/2. Skipper Shubman Gill fought valiantly, showcasing his full array of strokes to reach a hundred. However, despite his efforts, the rest of the batting line-up faltered against Karanataka’s bowling, and Punjab were bowled out for a mere 213, suffering a crushing defeat by an innings and 207 runs.
Bengal vs Haryana
After dominating the second day, Haryana’s focus on Day 3 was to extend their lead as much as possible. Powered by half-centuries from Nishant Sindhu and Himanshu Rana, Haryana pushed their lead beyond 350. Chasing a target of 369, Bengal’s batting crumbled, folding for just 85 runs in under 22 overs. Anuj Thakral and Anshul Kamboj were the stars with the ball, claiming four wickets each to hand Bengal their fifth-lowest total in the competition.
Vidarbha vs Rajasthan
Vidarbha’s go-to man in challenging situations, Akshay Wadkar, delivered yet another masterclass, scoring a crucial century to guide his team to a commanding lead of 258 runs with three wickets in hand. At 81/4, Vidarbha appeared to be in trouble, but Wadkar steadied the ship by forging vital partnerships with Yash Rathod and Nachiket Bhute, firmly putting his team in control against Rajasthan.
Gujarat vs Uttarakhand
Centuries from Jaymeet Patel and Manan Hingrajia powered Gujarat to a strong first-innings total of 393. In response, Uttarakhand, dismissed for a mere 111 in their first innings, showed some resilience in their second outing. Shashwat Dangwal scored a valiant century, but it wasn’t enough to avoid the defeat, as a poor overall batting display led to an innings-and-28-run loss.
Maharashtra vs Baroda
Maharashtra have taken a big lead of 616 after amassing 464 in their second innings. Saurabh Nawale shone with a century, while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ramakrishna Ghosh chipped in with vital half-centuries. All eyes will be on Day 4 to see when Maharashtra declare and how many overs they give themselves to bowl out Baroda.
