Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has withdrawn from The Hundred 2023 just before the start of the tournament due to an unspecified injury. He was retained by Trent Rockets with a top-bracket £125,000 contract and was set to play in the team’s first three games before international duty commenced. However, the ace spinner will miss the tournament owing to an injury. Rashid expressed disappointment and stated he hopes to return next year.
Pakistan’s spin bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim will replace Rashid and New Zealand’s leggie Ish Sodhi will join later and will replace Imad as previously announced by Trent Rockets.
“I’m really disappointed to have to withdraw from The Hundred through injury. It’s been great to play in the competition the first two years. Trent Rockets is a great team and I hope to be back again next year,” Rashid Khan said as quoted by BBC.com.
Notably, Rashid was absent from two ODIs against Sri Lanka due to a back injury.
